The Certificate in Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental Systems (COHSES) is part of the pathway to becoming an established OHS professional. Developed for learners from mid-level managers to front-line workers in every industry and sector, it aims to provide students with the skills to communicate their plans effectively to all levels of employees.
All courses in the COHSES program focus on a process-based approach to Occupational Health and Safety. The curriculum is not limited to a jurisdiction’s legislative framework; rather, it is a far-reaching collection of best practices as identified by OHS professionals from a wide range of jurisdictions and legislative backgrounds.
The course content is mapped to various frameworks, blueprints, and body of knowledge documents, using the International Network of Safety & Health Professional Organizations Global Framework as the foundation piece. The curriculum aligns with many external designation bodies, such as the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health, and includes materials based on blueprints from the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (BCRSP), the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) and the Australian Institute of Safety and Health (AISH).
COHSES is made up of 13 courses, with a total of 6 terms, 8 weeks in length. The program can be completed in as little as 11 months or up to 20 months in part time studies.

I decided to take this particular course based on the online learning environment. As a professional currently working in the field of safety & health, this course was the best way to gain further education.
The course content is very much aligned with the needs of a CRSP or any other safety related designation. The courses were succinct and opened my eyes to the ideas and paradigms that safety involves. My critical thinking capacity was raised and my knowledge level was increased.
I would recommend this course to any professional looking for a competitive advantage over their peers, as well as to gain valuable knowledge and critical thinking ability.
