Work hands-on with video production equipment starting in your first semester. Learn every aspect of the trade from behind the camera or behind the scenes, including lighting, sound, producing and editing. Canadore’s fast-paced, fully-functioning video production facility is equipped with high-definition studios, cameras and industry-standard editing software and equipment. Learn to produce music videos, commercials, documentaries and webisodes, and work on live productions that are broadcast online. Gain practical industry experience covering live events like OHL hockey games, and working on corporate videos and mobile productions using a YourTV mobile production truck.

What You’ll Learn

  • Operate industry standard production equipment, in studio and on location, to create television, video and/or web content for multiple platforms.
  • Deliver television, video and digital or web content via multiple platforms in formats that meet current broadcast industry standards.
  • Participate in the planning and preparation of television, mobile and/or Web productions that meet industry standards and regulations.
  • Monitor and maintain the technical quality of productions during recording and broadcasts using resources, equipment and protocols which meet with industry standards.
  • Participate in marketing activities to promote independent productions and/or a station’s brand and products.
  • Plan and prepare interviews, scripts and reporting content for use in television, video or digital media productions.
  • Use business skills and accepted industry practices in the creation of television, video and/or web productions.
  • Keep current with the needs of the television and digital media broadcast industry using strategies that enhance work performance and guide professional development.
  • Conduct work safely in accordance with all applicable acts, regulations, legislation, and codes to ensure personal and public safety.
  • Use a variety of post-production skills and techniques to enhance and complete television, digital, web and/or video productions.

Pros
- The education in the skilled trades is really good at Canadore. Many students travel to take aviation and culinary programs. My construction program was worth the trip.
- Instructors are very good and they care about you as a student...

Pros
- The education in the skilled trades is really good at Canadore. Many students travel to take aviation and culinary programs. My construction program was worth the trip.
- Instructors are very good and they care about you as a student.
- The focus on jobs is also a big part of the school. Lots of manual training and preparation for work.
- The college is attached to Nippising University and students benefit from the facilities and instructors.

Cons
- It's cold! It's cold and it's remote. The school is located in North Bay, in Northern Ontario. If you are from a big city, like I was when I went to Canadore, it can be a slow pace with not a lot going on. Make sure you find your friends or at least a study group and be prepared to focus on your work.
