User Interface Design is the practice of transforming user goals and requirements into beautiful, intuitive, and functional digital interfaces. This 10 week, part-time course is ideal for those looking to transition into a digital design-related role, or those who have an idea of a website that they want to bring to life.

The course introduces students to fundamental design principles, best practices, as well as visual trends and patterns relevant to crafting website and mobile applications.

Throughout the course, students will learn how to use the appropriate tools in designing and prototyping interface designs, including Sketch and InVision. The course amounts to a final project that showcases the students’ user-centered design thinking in the creation of a website or app, from ideation to pixel-perfect visuals, across multiple device platforms.

I attended the first cohort of this course. It was overall a good experience but because it was their second time delivering this course, it wasn't delivered as smoothly / as organized as I would've liked. On the part of the instructor, too much time spent on going through lessons and not enough time spent on application of the lessons. He also spoke quickly and a number of people complained that they weren't learning from him because of that. They didn't cover Seaborn for plotting at all in the course which I thought was a mistake (only covered matplotlib).

Overall, you got out of the course what you put in...there wasn't much pressure to do the homework or do a good job on the final project, for example...but, if you did, you'd get a good amount of knowledge out of it. Many people in the class slacked off as a result. I would've preferred a more competitive / slightly higher pressure atmosphere as that tends to lead to better learning for everyone. Also, I think the teaching could have been significantly better.

I took Brainstation’s part-time Web Dev course.

For me BrainStation's Intro to Web Dev course seemed like a great option to dip my toes into the world of HTML and CSS. Taking a full-fledged coding bootcamp felt way to risky, given the fact that I have never coded/worked in the industry before.

The course is geared towards people with little to no experience in coding, but I would say that a tiny bit of knowledge of HTML would probably be helpful in the beginning, but not entirely necessary, as the first couple of classes are dedicated to going over the basics.

The course is taught by people currently working in the industry which allows them to be able to relate the content to real life examples from their day to day activities, in turn making the course feel much more grounded in reality.

Each class has a hands-on project which I found to be key to quickly understand each concept covered throughout the "lecture". Instructors go over the projects to clarify any questions and are always available to help and guide through finding a solution if you are stuck.

It was remarkable to see how far I got in just 10 weeks. I went from only knowing a few bits of HTML elements - but not well enough to create even a basic site - to having actually created a site to be used as my resume, it works well and looks professional, something that I wouldn't be embarrassed to show to others.
