New to coding? The Front-End Fundamentals with JavaScript course is a great starting point. In 6 weeks, you’ll go from no coding experience to structuring web pages with HTML, styling them with CSS, and adding dynamic functionality using JavaScript. Lighthouse Labs rounds out the 6 week course with a look at AJAX and API requests to enable your website to dynamically display information from other web services like Twitter, Google Maps, and more.

Topics Covered

  • Web Development 101: What does all that code mean? Have the intricacies explained in a way that informs and empowers you.
  • HTML & CSS: Learn to create gorgeous, responsive web pages and captivate audiences using HTML5 and CSS3.
  • JavaScript: JavaScript is the universal programming language of the web, used by many and loved by all. It makes websites dynamic and interactive and is the key to unlocking the full potential of front-end web development.
  • jQuery: Make your projects stand out through the use of jQuery, one of the most popular JavaScript libraries.

Overall a wonderful experience. The curriculum can sometimes feel like it was assembled in a rush, although changes are often implemented on a cohort to cohort basis to keep the information relevant and possible to understand. The best part is definitely the mentor support. There are many friendly and knowledgable mentors that are always willing to help you understand the concept, how ever long it may take.

Quitting my job to start a career as a developer was extremely stressful, but I'm definitely glad I had the courage to do it! Studying at Lighthouse Labs in Toronto was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

The school's culture is great. It feels like school but there's so much more interaction and camaraderie between students and staff than you might be used to. Staff are super friendly, and career services do an amazing job of helping set up meetings for you and provide structure for any freelance gigs or projects they connect you with while you're looking for full-time employment. 3-4 months after graduation, everyone in my class who wanted to work as a developer had a great entry-level job as a coder, with opportunities for career growth within their companies. Course content is JavaScript heavy, which is what employers are after these days. Instructors are super knowledgeable.

Above all, I graduated from a real dev community that still supports me almost a year after graduation--staff and my peers included. I highly recommend Lighthouse Labs to any one seriously considering a career as a developer.

FAQ

  • Which should I take: the Intro course or the Bootcamp?

Ask yourself: "Do I want to work as a professional developer?" If the answer is 'yes', then there is no question that the full-time development bootcamp is the program you need. The goal of our bootcamp is to transform you into a professional full-stack developer. You’ll come to understand coding logic, and learn how to think like a dev by building software from the ground up using industry-relevant technologies. Our program will provide you with mentorship, data-driven curriculum and a top-notch learning environment that will launch you into your first junior developer role. If the answer is 'not sure', taking our part-time course might be the best option.

  • Who should take part-time courses?

Our Intro to Web Development, Front End Fundamentals with JavaScript & iOS Development courses are excellent for people interested in learning how to code; people interested in learning how to communicate with a development team; people looking to gain career skills to help in a hybrid role; and people interested in learning if they enjoy development before taking our Bootcamp.

  • What are my payment options?

Once you are accepted into a cohort, your place in the program will only be reserved once we have received your non-refundable deposit. Deposits can be paid by credit card, and we are able to accept cheques, wire transfers, bank drafts, or cash for the remainder of your tuition. Your tuition is due 2 weeks before your start date.

  • Can I come to Lighthouse Labs as an International student?

Yes, you can come to Lighthouse Labs as an international student! There is no additional tuition cost or restrictions for people applying from outside of Canada. We have had many students come to Canada for our Bootcamp on a visitors visa, however you are entirely responsible for making any legal arrangements for staying in the country. Lighthouse Labs is not able to assist in securing working permits, and your eligibility to work in Canada will entirely depend on you securing the proper documents. If you are able to obtain a working permit, you'll be able to take full advantage of our Career Services opportunities!

  • How does Career Services at Lighthouse Labs work?

At Lighthouse Labs our guiding belief is that over 80% of training will be learned on the job, and the first year of working as a software developer can be seen as paid high-intensity training. Our dedicated Career Services team is here to guide our students into their new roles. They work with all students to identify their career goals, and help them jump from classroom into the real world ASAP to continue honing their skills.
