This certificate was designed to help you become a qualified manager in the burgeoning field of predictive analytics. The courses interweave management, statistics and technology to help you learn the tools and techniques used by leading global practitioners. You might be a business owner, manager, analyst, systems architect, programmer, auditor, researcher or statistician. You’ll benefit from case studies, demonstrations, projects, guest lectures and highly experienced instructors. You’ll understand how data-driven decision-making can help your organization enhance profitability and better meet customers’ expectations. You’ll know how to create and defend a business case for analytics and be able to manage analytics with professionalism, insight and skill. This certificate is offered in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science.
What You’ll Learn
- Manage a Big Data/predictive analytics initiative.
- Address methodology, quality control, change management and other related matters.
- Know the important differences between data warehousing, business intelligence and Big Data.
- Develop security, privacy and risk-management standards.
- Apply up-to-date procedures, standards and techniques to an ongoing project.
We highly recommend that you have an undergraduate degree and a minimum of three years’ work experience. Good facility with analysis and information technology is recommended, as is familiarity with basic probability and statistics. Estimated workload for most courses is three lecture hours per week, plus an additional 6–10 hours per week of readings, exercises, cases and project homework. If your career goal is to become a data scientist, this program is not the right choice.

I highly recommend this program to anyone who wants to improve their skills in digital marketing and already has some work experience behind them.
Do I have to be a University of Toronto student or alumnus to apply for courses at the School of Continuing Studies?
No. All adults are welcome to apply for courses at the School regardless of prior academic background.
Can I apply the courses I take at the School of Continuing Studies for credit towards a degree program at the University of Toronto?
No. Courses taken at the School of Continuing Studies do not carry University of Toronto degree credit.
Will I gain admission to the University of Toronto if I take courses at the School of Continuing Studies?
No. Acceptance into the University of Toronto cannot be attained by completing courses at the School of Continuing Studies. You must apply for admission to degree programs, either through the Office of Admissions and Awards or through the School of Graduate Studies.
Do I have to register in a certificate before taking courses?
You do not have to register in a certificate before enrolling in courses that are requirements in the certificate program. When you have satisfied all certificate requirements in the prescribed time limit, you simply fill out the Certificate Request Form, send it to the School by email, fax or mail, and then wait for the certificate to be mailed to your preferred address. Although it is not necessary to register in a certificate before enrolling in courses, we do recommend that you notify us of your intention to pursue a certificate when you register for your first course. We will be able to track your progress and notify you of any updates or changes to the program.
Will the courses I take at the School of Continuing Studies affect my GPA at the University of Toronto?
All courses taken through the School of Continuing Studies are non-degree, non-credit. Final grades achieved for the School’s courses will not affect your GPA for degree studies at the University of Toronto.

Can I get a student visa if I study at the School of Continuing Studies?
Our full-time English as a Second Language Program is the only course or program offered by the School that may entitle you to qualify for a student visa. Check with the nearest Canadian visa office to make sure you have enough time to get the proper documents, if required. View the Citizenship and Immigration Canada website for more information.
