Langara’s Advanced Game Design program is designed to provide you with production-ready game design skills including comprehensive game design and development. This program is designed for students with a background in game design who are ready to move into a career as a game designer in the interactive entertainment or simulation industries.
Students in the Advanced Game Design program will develop a portfolio uniquely tailored toward their desired career path in the games industry. This program provides students with specialization skills not typically found prior to entering industry. Students will gain a solid and practical understanding of how to effectively work with specialists in order to realize their project’s development. To this end, students will have the opportunity to collaborate with student artists in other programs to help bring their games to life. Throughout this intense and focused process, students will be given the opportunity to identify and enhance their strengths and interests, which in turn enables them to enter the workforce with a narrowed focus and competitive edge.
What You’ll Learn
- Produce a portfolio of work suitable for seeking professional opportunities in their chosen field of game design.
- Learn and utilize industry-standard tools, software, and engines to produce relevant designs and games.
- Practice and specialize in various disciplines of design, such as systems design, combat design, UI design, level design and more.
- Solve creative problems within their field of game design, including research and synthesis of technical, aesthetic, and conceptual knowledge.
- Communicate their ideas effectively and connect with their intended audience using visual, oral, and written presentation skills.
- Execute technical, aesthetic, and conceptual decisions based on an understanding of game design principle.
- Evaluate, analyze and critique various forms of design, including their own work, using professional terminology and processes.
- Recognize the influence of major cultural and aesthetic trends, both historical and contemporary, on game design products.
- Learn the professional skills and behaviours necessary to compete in the global marketplace for game design.
