Mohawk College’s Registered Nurse – Critical Care Nursing program is designed to provide Registered Nurses (RNs) with the advanced knowledge and skills required to excel in critical care environments. This specialized program is ideal for nurses preparing for a career in critical care or for those currently working in critical care settings who wish to enhance their expertise. The program combines theoretical learning with hands-on clinical experience, covering areas such as neuroscience, cardiovascular care, respiratory care, and gastrointestinal/genitourinary (GI/GU) care.

Students will gain in-depth understanding of complex patient needs and will be trained to respond effectively to critical situations, from monitoring vital signs to managing life-threatening conditions. This program also prepares nurses for the Canadian Nurses Association’s Critical Care Nursing Certification Examination, further solidifying their credentials in this specialized field. By the end of the program, graduates will be equipped to deliver safe, high-quality care to critically ill patients and contribute to the effectiveness of interdisciplinary critical care teams.

Admission Requirements

  • Current RN registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario or a graduate nurse registration with respective provincial/territory regulator.

What You’ll Learn

  • Develop specialized knowledge in critical care nursing across various systems, including cardiovascular, respiratory, and neuroscience.
  • Learn to assess, monitor, and manage critically ill patients in diverse healthcare settings.
  • Gain expertise in providing care for special populations within the critical care environment.
  • Build skills in handling complex patient scenarios and emergencies in high-pressure situations.

This is my second time attending this college, when I attended years ago it was a very different experience. The school held many events, frosh week was always a blast, the campus is massive, free gym membership on campus, and they have great selection of food, downside was parking was usually a nightmare. This year is a bit different, with classes online its a bit hectic, confusing and I knew it would be. In my course the professors are very supportive, the layout is making a bit more sense each day, the it department have been fantastic. One thing I will say is that it can be a bit difficult to get some answers from certain departments, but my course professors are doing a great job so far!
