Toronto Film School is one of the world’s top film schools, offering accelerated diploma programs in film production, video production, acting, writing, video games, graphic design and fashion. The school is led by Andrew Barnsley, a Golden Globe and Emmy award-winning producer. Their programs are taught by experienced faculty, who remain active in the industry and base their assignments on real-world challenges.
You can take classes on campus in Toronto, Canada’s creative capital and hub for the country’s booming $1.5 billion+/year film and television industry. Or take classes online from anywhere in the world, where you can learn at your own pace.
At Toronto Film School, you will graduate with confidence that you have mastered your craft, with the knowledge, connections, and resiliency you need to thrive professionally in this demanding and exciting industry. All in just 12-24 months.
Funding Options
Canadian students loans and grant programs are usually offered at the provincial level, such as the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP). Eligibility will depend on factors such as family income, dependents and whether you have a disability. While student loans have to be repaid with interest after graduation, grants don’t.
Beyond offering educational funding based on merit, some schools and organizations provide scholarship opportunities to assist those who identify as women, under represented minorities (URM) and members of the military such as the Canadian Armed Forces. Scholarships may cover full or partial costs of a particular course or bootcamp.
Tuition and other expenses can be more manageable by paying in monthly installments, though some come with restrictions or high eligibility criteria. Ask about whether you can pay by check or direct deposit, if you’re expected to pay in full by end of term and, of course, interest rates.
Schools may help students find full-time salaried positions, apprenticeships, internships or unpaid positions, and offer a tuition refund if they can’t within a set timeframe (usually within six months of graduation). Make sure to clarify terms and conditions around what you have to do, such as sending out applications or taking interviews, before committing.
An agreement that allows tuition to be paid through a portion of a graduate’s future income. Though ISAs usually don’t require a down payment, confirm what you’ll need to pay back each month and over what time period. ISAs may increase the cost of education over the long term versus paying upfront.

Having recently graduated from TFS’ acting program I’ve had the opportunity to quickly diverse myself into the entertainment industry. Although my education was accomplished during the pandemic, I’m very thankful for the experiences I’ve had and people I met both online and in person. TFS has a wonderful faculty all of which are actual working professionals, which has been a highlight of my education. They’ve taught me various ways to kickstart my career and I’m thankful to have been exposed to so many different approaches. If you’re looking for a fast paced, hands-on experience that will give you a taste for everything off and on screen, I’d recommend this program to anyone ready to pursue their passion. It goes without saying that if you’re willing to look and work for it a hand full of opportunities will be presented to you. I’ve had the pleasure to recently stage manage TFS first live performance since this pandemic, which showcased Term 5 acting students at the Papermill theatre, “The Thirty-Nine Steps” Directed by Jack Grinhaus.

I had the chance to attend TFS from 2018 to 2019, in Film Production. I've enjoyed the entirety of the syllabus, complete and multidimensional. I was able to not only sharpen my creative intuitions, but also to have a more exact sense as to how to deploy them more effectively in the context of a large-scale production. There, I was given the opportunity to flourish not only as a cinephile, but also as a someone with the necessary toolkit to be an effective part of the industry.
I'm now working as a producer for a production company, three years (and a pandemic) after my graduation, and I still have deep connections with some of my professors, most notably Michaelangelo Masangkay, who I still call to this day for questions, references and advices.

As a recent graduate of the "Acting for Film, Television, and the Theatre" diploma program, I am a proud alumnus! TFS is a creative hub that provides endless networking opportunities with industry professionals. They have assembled a stand-out group of teachers that provide students with experience in not only acting, but also directing, producing, writing, editing, voiceover, and crew positions.
Although zoom learning was not the optimal way to do an acting course, the crew at TFS worked hard to translate the classes into an online format.
If you are wanting the skills to be a well-rounded professional in the Film and Television industry, this program will allow you to explore more than just a "conservatory-style" acting course.
