About
Animation
Computer animation is the process used to digitally generate animated images and bring to life characters by creating motion one frame at a time. A 3D animator uses computer software to create vivid, engaging video animations that can be used for web design applications, computer games, commercials, and full-length movies and television programs.
Individuals in the field of animation combine an aptitude for both technical knowledge and creative expression. Students will learn concept art as well as 2D and 3D modelling and visual effects. 3D animators typically work with developers, designers, and directors, making initial sketches and creating stills of the work to be done. In an animation or video design studio, 3D animators traditionally work as members of an animation team.
Typically, professionals in the field require a university degree in visual arts with specialization in graphic design, commercial art, graphic communications or cartooning, or completion of a college diploma program in graphic arts. Experience or training in multimedia design at a post-secondary, college or technical institution may be required.
Average salaries for 3D animators in Canada range from $50,177 a year up to $72,000 annually, depending on the location and the size of the employer.
