‘A’ Driver Training & Test

Fanshawe College’s ‘A’ Driver Training & Test program is an intensive, eight-week course designed to prepare individuals for the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) ‘A’ licence road test. This licence is required to operate vehicles towing trailers over 4,600 kilograms. The program includes 99 hours of hands-on driving experience and 101 hours of in-class theory, covering essential topics such as multi-speed transmission shifting, hours-of-service regulations, and pre-trip vehicle inspections.

Participants also gain knowledge in key areas like border crossing procedures and safe driving practices, ensuring they are well-prepared for professional driving responsibilities. The program is MTO-approved, and students benefit from taking their road test on-site using Fanshawe equipment, with a college Signing Authority. In addition to qualifying for the ‘A’ licence, students are also eligible to write the MTO ‘C’ licence exam, expanding their professional driving opportunities.
