Loyalist College’s Pharmacy Technician program prepares students for dynamic careers in the health care sector, where they play a vital role in supporting pharmacists and enhancing patient care. Through a blend of classroom instruction and hands-on experience, students gain the skills needed to gather patient information, process prescriptions, manage inventory, and prepare medications in accordance with current legislation and professional standards. Emphasizing teamwork, communication, and attention to detail, the program is ideal for individuals who are organized, adaptable, and eager to contribute to patient well-being in settings such as retail pharmacies, hospitals, and long-term care facilities.
The program is aligned with the entry-to-practice competencies outlined by the National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA) and the Canadian Pharmacy Technician Educators Association (CPTEA), ensuring graduates are ready for professional success. Students develop a strong foundation in legal and ethical practices, patient-centered care, and collaborative health care delivery. Learning is enriched through practical labs, interprofessional simulations, and two field placements that provide exposure to real-world pharmacy environments. With specialized training in both sterile and non-sterile product preparation and injection techniques, graduates leave fully equipped to meet the evolving demands of the pharmacy field.
