The MEd in Curriculum & Instruction: Science Education and Communication at Simon Fraser University offers a flexible, working-professional-oriented master’s programme that brings together science education and science communication into a single, critical and socially engaged framework. Delivered entirely online, this two year program has students meet virtually each week in addition to independent work.

Learners will broaden their understanding of science, technology, society and environment intersect, especially in contexts of public engagement, equity, and social justice. Students examine philosophical, historical, cultural, and political dimensions of science and science education, learn to critically evaluate “scientific literacy” in an age of misinformation, and develop capacities to design and implement science learning and communication initiatives in various settings.

Admission Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree with at least an overall average of a B.
  • Reference letters.
  • English language proficiency test.

What You’ll Learn

  • How to examine the complex relationships between science, technology, society and environment in different educational and communication contexts.
  • Theoretical and practical perspectives of decolonizing and indigenizing science education and science communication.
  • Transformative practices related to science education and communication.
