Health Information Management

Eastern College’s Health Information Management program prepares students to excel in managing and coding patient information within Canada’s healthcare system. Accredited by the Canadian College of Health Information Management (CHIMA), the program teaches Canadian coding standards, medical terminology, health data management, privacy regulations, and healthcare analytics. Students gain practical experience using industry-standard software such as EHRGo for interactive, case-based learning and WinRecs (Med2020) for coding and abstracting, ensuring they are workplace-ready.

The program offers flexible online learning options, including self-paced study or instructor-led classes, both of which include an 8-week internship for hands-on experience. Students receive CHIMA membership and support toward the National Certification Exam, including the cost of the first exam sitting. With campus support available in Moncton, Fredericton, Saint John, and Halifax, graduates leave the program with the skills, credentials, and practical experience needed to pursue careers in Health Information Management.

Admission Requirements

• Grade 12 or equivalent.
