My experience with the Dental Hygiene program itself was fairly positive. The program was decent overall, and I found the instructors to be knowledgeable, supportive, and good at what they do. Where I felt Niagara College really fell short was with the student services outside of the program. Financial aid, counselling, resume/career support, and other student success services were often difficult to navigate, had very slow response times, and the quality of support was inconsistent. At times, it felt like these services were there more so the college could say they were offered, rather than being genuinely helpful resources for students. I don't think the issue is necessarily the idea of these services, but more so how they are staffed and delivered. In my experience, most staff didn't seem to have the knowledge or ability to properly assist with the issues students brought forward. Overall, I had a good experience with the Dental Hygiene program and instructors, but I think Niagara College as a school has significant room for improvement.

After attending Brock University for four years and graduating from the Business Communications program I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to do next. We had a spokesperson from Niagara College come into our 4th year class to tell us about the Public Relations post-grad degree. I was turned onto the fact it was a one-year program that had a co-op/field placement to get real work experience in the field.

I enrolled in the program and it was extremely beneficial to my professional development. In university I learned a lot of theoretical and writing skills, but lacked a lot of hands-on experience. Niagara College got right into the meat of it and exposed me to a lot of things I never learned in university. We had courses that taught us how to use Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator, how to develop a basic website, writing for social media/PR and much more.

Overall I was extremely satisfied with my experience and I ended up landing a full-time job at the place I did my work placement at. Several years later I've moved along well in my career in a large part thanks to Niagara College's PR program.
