The Frontend Development for Designers Course will walk learners through the entire development process for creating a simple yet functional portfolio site to showcase their creative work.

The course is suitable for those who already know their way around UX design. For those interested in code and have been employed as a UX designer for some time, either in-house or as a freelancer, and who know the difference between a wireframe and a prototype or have taken CareerFoundry’s UX Design Program (or an equivalent external course), this is the right course. Students don’t need an incredibly high level of UX skills to succeed in this course, but it does assume that they have at least 1-3 UX design projects to start with—this is because the project done in the course is a portfolio page, and students need to have a selection of projects to include in their portfolio page.

Students first begin learning about frontend development through web inspection and basic HTML, before gradually working their way through CSS stylesheets, responsive CSS, JavaScript plugins, testing and debugging, and, finally, creating a presentation to show off their hard work. By the end of the course, students will have gained hands-on knowledge on how to build a website from scratch. Learners not only know how to code with HTML and CSS but also how to debug and use JavaScript to add interactivity to a website. Most importantly, students will be able to speak the language of “code,” giving them the ability to communicate across teams about any technical issues noticed within the designs of a website or application. This will enable them to effectively collaborate with developers and coordinate cross-team projects throughout their career—an essential part of any design role.

Requirements: Experience with UX or UI design (with wireframes, prototypes, and UX/UI principles).

Note that this course is not eligible for CareerFoundry’s Job Guarantee.

I’m enjoying learning UX through CareerFoundry. The flexible model works really well for me since I can take a break if work/personal life is busy and make up for it when I have more time. Learning oline can be a bit lonely though especially when it involves tasks usually completed in teams like user research. I have found it helpful to go to mentor when I’m feeling lonely/unmotivated. The mentor/tutor model has been good.
