CareerFoundry offers mentored online courses in UX design, UI design and web development. The Berlin, Germany-based online educator is focused on helping beginners become tech professionals in as little as six months with help from dedicated mentors, tutors and career specialists. According to CareerFoundry, 96 percent of graduates land a job in their field within 180 days of graduation.

CareerFoundry’s Online Learning Experience

CareerFoundry’s online learning environment lets students track their progress using a dashboard and connect in real-time with student advisors and tutors on a daily basis. Lessons are broken down into broad topics called Achievements, each of which is supported by a series of hands-on exercises designed to mimic actual work projects. Students work in close collaboration with a tutor toward building a robust portfolio.

What Students Are Saying

Career Foundry's UX design immersion course is a really really solid program for people who have a full time job and is looking for career change or development. Career Foundry's full time course is about $10K (which is similar to what you pay for Brainstation's 3 months full time course). It comes with a job preparation module and a specialization of choice (Voice, UI, or Front-end development). The duration is about 10 - 12 months with a mentor available on-demand throughout and a tutor you can Slack with regarding your course work. They also have a job guarantee (with very reasonable terms & conditions) which gives you money back if you can't find a job in 6 months. I find it's portfolio focus approach and flexible schedule a Must as I have a full time job to keep at the moment and I want to be portfolio ready when I finish the course. At first, I worried that Career Foundry is not very well know in Toronto though it has great reputation in Europe. But I interviewed a few alumni in person in Toronto and they now hold actual UX design courses after transitioning from a different industry. Overall I highly recommend this program. It's remote learning so you just need to be very self motivated and put in the time for your homework.

What Students Are Saying

In my early years of my career I've had exposure to product management in a variety of tech roles, but at the company I worked for there was no discipline or structure on this. It appeared as though there were pockets of expertise on it spread across the org. I had a voracious appetite to learn more and found this essential to my career progression. I'm grateful to have taken the Product Management course with General Assembly as this helped fill in the gaps I needed to make the full transition into a Product Manager role. The course empowered me with the tools and knowledge I needed to take on a problem I was passionate about solving and transforming into a viable business product. I now feel a lot more confident and ecstatic to apply what I've learned in my current role and in my side projects. A BIG SHOUTOUT also to my teacher Andrew Kumar for helping carve out this new path for me.

What Students Are Saying

I chose to enroll in the online UI course at Brainstation. With my work schedule along with other commitments, I thought that would be the best approach for me. I’ve learned a lot of technical skills about UI including InVision, Sketch, prototyping, wireframing and creating high fidelity screens in 10 weeks. My instructor were helpful and always made themselves available. I would say the one negative I had, is I wish we had more time to get more in depth with sketch. I know that it was a part time course, but it would’ve been better to have more practice in class. Overall though, I enjoyed my time at BrainStation.

UofT’s SCS Coding Boot Camp is a part-time Full Stack Flex course that equips students with the fundamental skills needed to become a full stack web developer. The cutting-edge curriculum not only covers the basics of coding, algorithms and data structure, but takes students through intensive training in JavaScript, Node.js, HTML, CSS, jQuery, Java, and more.

UofT Coding Boot Camp’s Online Learning Experience

UofT’s flexible, self-paced, online coding bootcamp consists of three main phases in which student “build,” “apply” and “execute” on new knowledge. At each stop, students can tap into various channels for support including their Teaching Assistants (TAs), Program Support Manager (PSM), dedicated mentor, community Slack channel, or the online learner portal.

What Students Are Saying

I enrolled in the weekday course and find it challenging and extremely rewarding. I've read a lot of negative reviews about the program online (the program IS in its first year), but they all seem to be from the same class being run on the weekend at UofT. My instructor is an industry professional who is knowledgable and willing to do whatever it takes to help students become full-stack developers when they graduate. Having said that, I do think there are minor wrinkles to iron out: like finding bigger classrooms and more working outlets, streamlining assignment material, and making the online learning platform easier to use. A company called Trilogy Education is actually running this program out of UofT. Better coordination between Trilogy and the university might help. Ultimately, the curriculum is very good. If you're an independent learner who has a full-time job, then the SCS coding bootcamp will deliver in ways that other full-time front-end heavy bootcamps will not. The unique 24-week timeline and scope of topics are what really drew me to the course. On those points, it's delivered.
