Business intelligence professionals help organizations collect, structure, interpret, and report on business data to help stakeholders make informed decisions.

Business intelligence uses processes and tools to turn raw data into easy-to-understand, actionable information. Organizations rely on this information to make better strategic and operational business decisions.

The Google Business Intelligence Professional Certificate is a three-course series, including Foundations of Business Intelligence, The Path to Insights: Data Models and Pipelines, and Decisions, Decisions: Dashboards and Reports.

Google Career Certificates cost US$49 per month on Coursera after an initial 7-day free trial period. All Google Career Certificates are completely self-paced. At about 10 hours of study per week, many learners complete the Google Business Intelligence Career Certificate in one to two months.

What you’ll learn

  • Explore the roles of business intelligence (BI) professionals within an organization.
  • Practice data modeling and extract, transform, and load (ETL) processes that meet organizational goals.
  • Design data visualizations that answer business questions.
  • Create dashboards that effectively communicate data insights to stakeholders.

I got a lot from this course but found it hard to finish. The instructors (all video recordings) were reading from scripts and they really lacked energy and everything felt rehearsed. I left craving a human touch to the course. I'm sure they will get better but online education at this scale will always miss something that only a classroom or live training can provide.

This is a great initiative by Google, but I thought I'd be getting something more like a real college certificate. People need to understand that you don't have professors or instructors helping you and motivating you. You don't have a cohort or class to learn with, joke with, grow with. Google touts its large employer network, but no one at Google is in your corner helping you with your resume and networking and job search.

The curriculum is good and you can learn a lot if you're self-motivated, but I think Google oversells and overhypes what they can do. As a starting point this is great, I just wouldn't expect to complete this and land yourself a job. For most people, this just won't be enough.
