University of the Fraser Valley’s Advanced Master of Social Work (MSW) program prepares students with advanced practice knowledge and leadership skills for professional roles within complex social service environments. The five-semester program combines core coursework, electives, and a 450-hour practicum to help students develop competencies in supervision, leadership, social policy, advanced assessment, and anti-oppressive practice. Grounded in principles of social justice and cross-cultural understanding, the program emphasizes ethical and inclusive approaches to working with diverse individuals, families, and communities.

The curriculum is shaped by a commitment to Indigenous self-determination and partnerships with local First Nations communities, encouraging students to integrate anti-oppressive and culturally responsive frameworks into their practice. Supported by experienced faculty and strong community partnerships throughout the Fraser Valley and Lower Mainland, students gain meaningful practicum experiences and professional mentorship. As a culminating experience, learners complete a major paper or project in an area of interest such as health, children and families, or mental health. Accredited nationally by CASWE–ACFTS, the program prepares graduates for leadership in social work practice and eligibility to apply for registration with the British Columbia College of Social Workers.
