Pharmacy Assistant

The Pharmacy Assistant Ontario College Certificate program at Loyalist College prepares students to become vital members of the pharmacy team. Through a blend of classroom instruction, hands-on labs, and community field placements, learners gain practical experience for work in retail pharmacies, clinics, and long-term care settings. The curriculum builds a strong foundation in pharmaceutical products, human body systems, pharmacology basics, pharmacy math, and inventory management, while emphasizing accuracy, safety, and professionalism in dispensing support roles.

Students also explore legislation, ethical standards, and inclusive healthcare practices to ensure responsible and patient-centered service. Courses in communication, college writing, and global citizenship further strengthen workplace readiness. With two levels of theory and lab training followed by a supervised community placement, graduates develop the technical knowledge, organizational skills, and customer service expertise needed to support pharmacists and contribute effectively to diverse healthcare environments.
