Acupuncture

MacEwan University’s Acupuncture program prepares students to become Registered Acupuncturists in Alberta, subject to successful completion of the Pan-Canadian and provincial registration examinations administered by the College and Association of Acupuncturists of Alberta (CAAA).

In this 3-year diploma, students study the diagnosis and therapeutic treatment of a wide variety of illnesses and disorders in accordance with the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) system. The curriculum is based on the latest national and international standards of competency to ensure the skills and knowledge learned are global.

Modern scientific studies confirm that acupuncture induces biochemical changes in the body that have beneficial effects and can facilitate healing. Under the guidance of experienced clinicians, students learn to work with the body’s energy as it flows along well-defined pathways in the body called meridians. The training allows students to balance energy flow at the appropriate meridians to prevent and treat illness.

Acupuncture program courses in acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine are taught by registered acupuncturists. Students will also study basic bio-medical sciences—human anatomy, physiology, microbiology and internal medicine—taught by professionals and experts in their related fields.
