Eastern College offers a Personal Support Worker program designed to prepare students for a meaningful career supporting individuals who require assistance due to aging, illness, injury, or disability. Available at the Saint John, Fredericton, and Moncton campuses in New Brunswick, the program combines practical, hands-on training with flexible learning options, including both in-person and online formats. Students develop the skills needed to assist with daily living activities such as personal care, meal preparation, medication support, and emotional well-being, while meeting provincial standards for employment in the healthcare field.
Through a comprehensive curriculum and real-world practicums in both facility and community settings, students gain the confidence and experience needed to enter the workforce. Training includes key areas such as body systems, cognitive and mental health, dementia care, safety and mobility, and care planning, along with certifications in CPR/First Aid and Gentle Persuasive Approach. The instructors are absolutely wonderful to work with online. The address all concerns quickly and they help you to succeed.
What impressed me most was the school’s focus on practical application and critical thinking. They constantly encouraged us to step outside the theoretical and apply what we learned. It definitely shaped how I approach problem-solving now.
