This interdisciplinary major will give students a strong foundation in the science disciplines relating to toxicology, drawing on the biological, physical and social sciences. Improve health and welfare by learning about pharmacology, environmental poisons, industrial chemicals and the impact on living beings. Students knowledge will span fields such as biomedical physiology, nutrition, environmental chemistry, pathology and culminate in the choice of a toxicology research project.
Students will combine studies spanning biomedical science, chemistry, nutrition and disease at the cellular level to better understand mechanisms of toxic action. They will study the in depth dose response relationship across mammalian organs from the molecular to systemic level while learning about toxicological applications. The skills gained in this degree will enable students to start a career in product safety, public health, toxicological testing, healthcare and more.
The optional Co-op program in Biomedical Toxicology is a five-year program, including four work terms, which helps to provide the hands-on working experience to boost graduates resume and provide invaluable skills and learning for their future career.
Biomedical Toxicology graduates enjoy challenging careers in medicine and pharmacy, academic research, governmental regulatory work, veterinary sciences, optometry, physiotherapy, non-and-for-profit organizations, or in related business fields. The University of Guelph’s Biomedical Toxicology program provides graduates with a degree that is truly interdisciplinary, ensuring that upon graduation students have acquired an expertise and proficiency in great demand by employers.
