Major in Interdisciplinary Design

NSCAD University’s four-year Major in Interdisciplinary Design program prepares students to create innovative design solutions across a wide range of media, products, and services. The program explores the connections between people, technology, and aesthetics while developing critical thinking, visual communication, and design problem-solving skills. Through guidance from experienced faculty and industry professionals, students build expertise in design thinking, visualization, user experience, and production processes, with opportunities to address contemporary social and environmental challenges.

The program combines six major design studios with hands-on projects, self-directed exploration, and a broad selection of electives. Students gain experience creating graphic designs, books, animations, websites, apps, physical products, packaging, and exhibitions, while exploring areas such as typography, illustration, prototyping, and UI/UX design. Beginning with an immersive Foundation studies year, the program provides a broad introduction to art and design before students develop their interests and build the versatility needed to pursue careers across graphic, interactive, product, and service design.
