In Mohawk College’s Early Childhood Education (ECE) program, students develop the ability to foster a sense of belonging, engagement, expression and wellbeing for children and their families in this rewarding career. Students will further apply theory to practice through three wide-ranging practicum placements.

Students will learn to create learning environments that foster and maintain caring, responsive relationships with children, families, and communities, respecting and valuing social, cultural, and linguistic diversity, including Indigenous worldviews and Francophone identity. They will collaboratively design, facilitate, and reflect on inquiry and play-based early childhood programs that support children’s learning, holistic development, and well-being, guided by their capabilities, interests, ideas, and experiences. By the end of the program, students will be able to co-design and sustain inclusive early learning settings that ensure equitable, accessible, and meaningful opportunities for all children and their families across diverse early years and childcare environments.

This is my second time attending this college, when I attended years ago it was a very different experience. The school held many events, frosh week was always a blast, the campus is massive, free gym membership on campus, and they have great selection of food, downside was parking was usually a nightmare. This year is a bit different, with classes online its a bit hectic, confusing and I knew it would be. In my course the professors are very supportive, the layout is making a bit more sense each day, the it department have been fantastic. One thing I will say is that it can be a bit difficult to get some answers from certain departments, but my course professors are doing a great job so far!

A great college, excellent faculty, and programs: check out the General Arts and Science Program if you aren’t sure about your next step in your academic journey - they also have a university transfer program. Why spend an extra year at high school when you can get credit for college and university programs.
