Mohawk College’s Graphic Design program offers students the opportunity to master the art of visual communication by combining creativity with technical expertise. Students will develop a strong foundation in design principles, digital production techniques, and modern media, preparing them to influence the visual landscape across a range of industries. With access to state-of-the-art facilities like the Hugh Cameron Digital Print Learning Centre, students gain hands-on experience using industry-standard equipment, learning both print and digital design techniques. The program emphasizes conceptual thinking, design problem-solving, and the use of photography, illustration, and typography to create compelling visual content.
The program also focuses on inclusivity, equity, and cultural sensitivity, empowering students to create designs that are accessible to diverse audiences and reflect the principles of equity, diversity, and reconciliation. Students can tailor their education by specializing in one of three streams—Digital Print and Packaging, Illustration, or UX/UI—allowing them to pursue specific career interests. Through real-world client projects and a collaborative, Living Lab experience, students gain professional experience while honing their project management, communication, and creative skills. With a focus on professional development and current industry practices, graduates are well-equipped to succeed in the ever-evolving design industry.
