The Manufacturing Engineering Technician – Automation (Industrial Mechanic Millwright) program at Mohawk College provides students with the essential skills to install, maintain, and optimize manufacturing technology. With the highest student satisfaction of any comparable program in Ontario, this program prepares graduates to tackle technical challenges in modern manufacturing environments.
Students learn to analyze and solve routine technical problems using engineering principles, applying their knowledge to components, processes, and systems. The curriculum emphasizes the interpretation and preparation of technical documents and graphics according to engineering standards. Students also gain proficiency in using computer hardware and software to support manufacturing operations.
The program covers key areas such as materials, operations, machinery, tools, and equipment used in manufacturing, as well as quality control and assurance procedures. Graduates are equipped to understand the environmental, economic, legal, safety, and ethical aspects of manufacturing projects, while also gaining skills in documentation, inventory management, and record-keeping. By the end of the program, students will be well-prepared to contribute to manufacturing projects and improve job performance through strategic planning and teamwork.

What You’ll Learn
- Develop expertise in mechanical maintenance, machining, fluid power systems, and machine fabrication and repair operations.
- Gain knowledge in measurement principles, metallurgy, automated systems, mathematics, blueprint interpretation, safety, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Acquire skills in troubleshooting, maintaining, and performing preventative maintenance on automated systems, including PLC programming and ladder logic applications.
- Learn AutoCAD, rigging and hoisting, power transmission, and welding techniques, enhancing practical skills for the manufacturing environment.
