Above all else, Smith’s Master of Management Innovation & Entrepreneurship launches your career in the innovation ecosystem. For the duration of the program, you will work on the development, design and activation of your innovative ideas through one of two Project Paths. Additionally, you will develop your business acumen through three bootcamp style sessions at Smith. As a result, the program may be completed from anywhere in Canada.

The program provides two project paths – one for entrepreneurs and one for corporate/organizational innovators. The two project paths enable you to personalize your experience while in the program, based on your aspirations. Within each project path, there are two options, which allow for further personalization. These may be completed as full immersion, virtually, as your side hustle, or any combination. In other words, you may choose to work on your innovation project at Smith or anywhere else. If you are currently employed or working on your own startup, you are not required to relocate to Kingston for the program.

The program includes three highly intensive on-campus sessions in which you will develop your business acumen and learn the tools and techniques you need to succeed. There is a 2 week session in August (at the beginning of the program), a one week session in December, and one week in May. During these sessions you will complete six courses, each with corresponding readings and assignments.

Queen’s is consistently ranked among the best in the world. You can find average salaries and graduation rates on CourseCompare and on Smith’s website. The numbers speak for themselves.

But the best things about Queen’s are the people, the community and the networks. You will probably have fun here while meeting the future CEO of a tech startup or leader in finance and consulting. QC doesn’t set up internships for you and you will have to find one on your own, but recruiters are always on campus and profs are in your court and available to help you. There are also 40+ clubs to join where you can meet amazing people. There are regular conferences happening that attract first-rate speakers, and the exchange program is amazing and not one to be missed.

Queen’s and Ivey at Western are both excellent, but I chose Queen’s because it’s a 4-year program. Ivey begins in year three and I didn’t want to have to compete to get in and then make friends halfway through my undergrad experience.

To summarize, Queen’s is where future business leaders are being taught. The community is second-to-none and the career results speak for themselves.

The program gave me an edge in my day-to-day business dealings and ultimately boosted my confidence to take my family business to the next level. I loved the videoconference technology. It felt as if you were right there in the front row of the class, and the professor– student interaction was wonderful. This program is not for the faint of heart, but I couldn’t imagine where I would be today without it.
