Financial Technology (FinTech)

Sheridan College’s Financial Technology (FinTech) graduate certificate prepares students to build the skills needed to contribute to the evolving digital finance industry. Combining finance, data science, programming, and emerging technologies, the program explores how digital solutions are transforming banking, payments, investing, cybersecurity, and other financial services. Students develop a foundation in financial principles, technology, data analytics, artificial intelligence, and financial regulations before progressing to advanced topics such as machine learning, predictive analytics, and blockchain.

Through hands-on labs, case studies, group projects, and a final capstone project, students gain practical experience using industry tools such as Python, R, SQL, Power BI, Excel, cloud technologies, and FinTech APIs. The curriculum emphasizes secure financial transactions, risk management, data-driven decision-making, regulatory compliance, and innovative solution development. Students also strengthen their communication, collaboration, and entrepreneurial skills, with an optional co-op offering up to 360 hours of real-world experience to help prepare them for opportunities in the growing FinTech sector.

Admission Requirements

• Postsecondary diploma, advanced diploma or degree in business, finance, applied computing, information technology, computer science or equivalent fields OR demonstrated competence through educational experience and/or related work experience.
