Bachelor of Social Work (BSW)

McGill University’s Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program is a three-year undergraduate degree designed to prepare students for professional social work practice through an integrated study of theory, research, policy, and applied intervention. Offered through the School of Social Work within the Faculty of Arts, the program helps students develop foundational knowledge in social work history, ethics, anti-oppressive practice, human development, and public social services in Canada. Students also build professional skills for working with individuals, families, groups, communities, and organizations while exploring the social and policy factors that shape health and social services.

The curriculum combines classroom learning with extensive field education and experiential practice, allowing students to apply social work methods in real-world settings. Advanced coursework explores areas such as community practice, mental health, social policy, Indigenous perspectives, and research in social work. Throughout the program, students are encouraged to develop critical thinking, cultural awareness, ethical responsibility, and a strong sense of professional identity as agents of social change. Accredited by the Canadian Association for Social Work Education, the program prepares graduates for professional practice and future graduate-level studies in social work and related fields.

• Diploma of College Studies (DCS)/Diplome d’etudes collegiales (DEC).
