Bachelor of Social Work

Université Laval’s Bachelor of Social Work prepares students to support individuals, couples, families, groups, and communities in developing the skills and resources needed to improve social functioning, promote development, and enhance overall well-being. The program introduces students to core social work principles, including human rights and social justice, while emphasizing social change, problem-solving in human relationships, and the interaction between individuals and their environments. Drawing on a range of theories and approaches, students learn how to intervene effectively in complex social contexts.

The program is designed for individuals with strong interpersonal skills, a sense of social responsibility, and an interest in helping others through listening, guidance, mediation, and conflict resolution. Social workers are prepared to practice within public health and social service systems, as well as in community development settings such as rural and urban communities facing social, economic, or environmental challenges. Graduates also work with diverse populations, including Indigenous communities, immigrants, seniors, people with disabilities, and other marginalized groups, and are often employed by correctional services, community organizations, and public agencies focused on social and economic development.

Admission Requirements

• DEC in Sciences, Letters and Arts, Humanities, Natural Sciences, or other DEC and having successfully completed Psychology and Quantitative methods courses.
