The Computer Programming Ontario College Diploma program equips students with the skills necessary for a career in software development. The curriculum focuses on key areas such as program development strategies, particularly through object-oriented modeling, as well as database design and administration.
Students gain hands-on experience with leading industry software products, including Oracle and CASE tools. They also learn to work with various programming languages like Java, COBOL, SQL, and PHP. The program covers essential topics such as object-oriented analysis and design, operating systems, and coding in integrated environments. Additionally, students are trained in debugging, testing, and maintaining code to ensure quality and efficiency.
In the final semester, students have the opportunity to engage in a software development project, collaborating with external clients to gain practical, real-world experience in the field. Upon graduation, individuals are prepared to enter a wide range of industries, as programming and database skills are in demand across nearly all sectors. Potential fields of employment include the private and public sectors, healthcare, education, commerce, science, finance, production, information services, the service industry, and human services.
