Master of Social Work (MSW)

University of Northern British Columbia’s Master of Social Work (MSW) program provides advanced education in social work research, policy, and practice through flexible full-time or part-time study options. Students may complete the program through either a thesis or practicum pathway, allowing them to tailor their learning to academic, professional, or research-focused goals. Building on foundational social work education, the program emphasizes the integration of theory, policy analysis, and applied practice to prepare graduates for leadership and advanced professional roles within the human services sector.

The MSW program focuses on key thematic areas including social work in northern and remote communities, Indigenous peoples, women and human services, and community practice and research. Through independent and specialized study, students develop the advanced skills needed for management, policy development, program planning, consultation, clinical practice, and research. Accredited by the Canadian Association for Social Work Education, the program supports critical and community-responsive approaches to social work while preparing graduates to contribute effectively to diverse social service environments and complex social issues.
