The Mechanical Techniques – Plumbing program at Lambton College is a one-year, two-term Ontario College Certificate program designed to provide students with a comprehensive foundation in both the theoretical and practical aspects of the plumbing trade. The curriculum covers the Level I in-school requirements for the Plumbing Apprenticeship and introduces students to the tools, materials, and techniques commonly used in residential, commercial, and industrial plumbing. Students gain experience interpreting plumbing codes and technical drawings, applying workplace safety practices, performing soldering, brazing, and welding, and developing essential skills in trade mathematics, communication, and teamwork.
Throughout the program, students participate in hands-on projects and applied courses that emphasize practical skills such as pipe installation, drainage, venting, and the use of plumbing tools and equipment. They also explore metal cutting, welding techniques, and the safe operation of industry-standard machinery. In addition, courses in information technology, job search strategies, and professional success prepare graduates to confidently enter the workforce and pursue further apprenticeship opportunities. By combining technical training with professional development, the program equips students with the knowledge, skills, and certifications needed to succeed in the plumbing industry.
