Computer Programming

The Computer Programming program at Sault College is a two-year Ontario College Diploma designed to prepare students for careers in software development through hands-on training and industry-relevant experience. The curriculum covers both hardware and software environments that reflect real-world industry standards, ensuring graduates remain up to date with evolving technology. Students develop skills in programming languages such as Python, Java, and JavaScript, applying them to standalone and web-based database management applications. The program culminates in a mentored capstone project, allowing students to integrate their knowledge into a practical application.

Graduates have the option to extend their studies by completing a third year to earn the Computer Programming and Analysis advanced diploma or pursuing graduate certificate programs in Cybersecurity or Networking and Security Architecture. Additionally, students interested in obtaining a university degree can transfer their Sault College credits to Algoma University, enabling them to complete a Bachelor of Computer Science in as little as one or two additional years. The program also includes a semester-long project where students gain real-world experience by developing prototype software systems to improve business processes for local organizations.

Admission Requirements

• Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent.
• Grade 12 English and Math.
