Université de Sherbrooke’s Master of Social Work program prepares reflective, critical, and autonomous practitioners who demonstrate leadership across diverse professional contexts. Students develop advanced analytical skills and a strong social understanding of complex issues, enabling them to collaborate with individuals, families, groups, communities, and interdisciplinary networks. The program supports roles in intervention, counselling, supervision, management, organization, and research, while emphasizing equity, social justice, and the co-construction of solutions that promote individual and collective well-being.
The program offers both a course-based pathway with internship and a research-based pathway, each designed to strengthen professional and scholarly competencies in social work. The course-based option focuses on mastering assessment and intervention in complex practice settings, while the research pathway emphasizes the application of research to practice and leadership in advancing social work knowledge. Across both streams, students engage with intervention situations involving socio-legal evaluation, intersectoral collaboration, and applied research, developing the capacity to design, implement, and evaluate social interventions while contributing to evidence-informed and ethically grounded practice.
