The Honours Bachelor of Construction Management (HBCM) program equips students with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to succeed in careers across the industrial, residential, institutional, or commercial construction sectors. Throughout the program, students will develop the expertise required for leadership and management roles within the construction industry. Students will have the opportunity to apply their learning during a 14-week field placement, with an additional optional placement available for further experience.
Upon graduation, students will possess the foundational knowledge needed to pursue additional certifications, enhancing their career prospects in the construction management field.
What You’ll Learn
- Analyze architectural, engineering, and legal documentation to assess deliverables and maintain schedules for residential, industrial, commercial, and institutional construction projects.
- Analyze cost estimates and compare actual costs to plan, budget, and control allocated resources for construction projects.
- Create construction schedules that include stakeholders and the sequence of construction activities to ensure and monitor alignment with project deliverables and requirements.
- Assess construction methods, building equipment, safety, and labour requirements to ensure compliance to regulatory and contract laws.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams using leadership, management, communication, and negotiation strategies to support ethical business decisions in construction projects.
- Manage the selection of construction methods and materials by using quality assurance mechanisms and control techniques to evaluate the risk associated with the materials and methods used in a construction project.
