Behind every project delivered on time and on budget is a project manager who can communicate effectively and manage a team from initiation through to planning, execution, control, and closing. UBC Sauder’s Project Management program gives students the skills needed to excel in project delivery in a wide variety of disciplines, along with a toolkit that can be put to work immediately whether learners are in industry, government, or a community organization.

Taught by leading project management professionals, the program focuses on the competencies needed to become an effective leader, not just a Project Manager, and provides the edge to stand out. Drawing on real-life case studies participants will learn why projects fail and how to apply project management concepts, methodologies, and tools to achieve organizational success. The comprehensive five course program is aligned with the Project Management Institute (PMI)® industry standards (PMBOK® Guide), the PMI Agile Practice Guide and PMI Talent Triangle.

What You’ll Learn

  • Project Management Fundamentals: Organizations large and small and in every industry recognize that well planned, well-managed projects solve problems and delivers value.
  • Structured Project Management: Gain insight into the project management processes that forms the backbone of the Project Management Institute’s (PMI) recommended practices.
  • Leading from the Middle: Project Managers not only focus on managing projects but also on ‘leading from the middle’. Based on original research carried out by our project management instructional faculty, this course examines how leaders think, how they interact with their teams and how they navigate projects forward and solidify buy-in to build momentum.
  • Agile Project Management: Effective Project Managers need the tools to lead agile projects in the face of emergent, volatile, or shifting requirements.
  • Applied Project Management:  Learn to be Project Manager who has been brought in to rescue a project that is already in trouble.

My first year at UBC Sauder was a unique and eye-opening experience. The school attracts highly driven students who are ambitious and goal-oriented, which creates a fast-paced and focused academic environment. There’s a strong culture of professionalism—people often dress in business casual, which really sets the tone for preparing students for the corporate world. What stood out most to me were the professors. Sauder has some truly outstanding first-year faculty who are passionate about teaching and committed to creating a more inclusive and thoughtful learning environment. I especially appreciated how classes focused not just on content, but on teaching us how to think differently and spot opportunities in the business world.

Choosing UBC Sauder was one of the best decisions I’ve made. The program combines academic excellence with real-world experience through consulting projects and case studies. I appreciated learning from professors with actual industry backgrounds—they made the material engaging and practical. The collaborative, diverse environment helped me grow both personally and professionally, and the career support was incredibly helpful, especially as I looked to work in Canada. Sauder’s focus on responsible leadership and global perspective really aligned with my values.
