The Computer Science program offers students the opportunity to specialize in rapidly growing fields, including cloud computing, data analytics, data engineering, game engineering, and network engineering. In the first year, students receive an introduction to each specialization before selecting eight courses in their chosen area, gaining expertise in skills not typically covered in traditional diploma or degree programs. The curriculum builds a strong foundation in computer science, covering essential topics such as programming, networks, mathematics, scripting, and database modeling. Over 80 percent of the coursework consists of core subjects designed to prepare graduates for careers across various computer science domains.

Emphasizing hands-on learning, the program provides opportunities for internships, co-op placements, and applied research. Between the third and fourth years, students can participate in a four-month internship or a paid co-op placement lasting up to 16 months with industry partners. Additionally, students can enhance their research skills by contributing to Sheridan’s applied research projects.

In the final year, students can tailor their education to their career goals by choosing between a capstone project or a thesis. The capstone involves solving a real-world problem, often in collaboration with an external client or partner, making it ideal for those seeking immediate employment. Alternatively, the thesis research project provides a strong foundation for those planning to pursue graduate studies in computer science.
