The MEd in Curriculum & Instruction: Digital and New Media Literacies at Simon Fraser University offers a two-year master’s degree delivered fully online, designed for educators who want to critically engage with new media as part of literacy and instruction. It blends theory and practice so that teachers, librarians, and educators in K–12 or adult/community education can reimagine traditional notions of “reading and writing” to include podcasts, games, social media, video essays, and other digital texts.
The program emphasizes hands-on learning, including producing podcasts and videos to designing multimodal classroom experiences while grounding every skill in critical digital literacy frameworks. Graduates leave prepared to help learners navigate today’s complex media landscape, address issues of bias and equity in online spaces, and integrate creative, culturally responsive digital practices that strengthen engagement and deepen understanding in any educational setting.

- Bachelor’s Degree with at least an overall average of a B.
- Reference letters.
- English language proficiency test.
What You’ll Learn
