Today’s art world and photography industry are continually evolving, encompassing areas like web and installation design and emerging technologies such as augmented reality. The internationally renowned Image Arts: Photography Media Arts degree program offers a comprehensive approach to lens-based practices, emphasizing the creation of impactful and inspiring images and experiences.
Students will delve into contemporary art, documentary, editorial, commercial photography, photojournalism, and creative image-making. The curriculum covers all facets of the field, including camera and lighting techniques, installation and experience design, 3D environment design, graphic design, and curatorial practice.
Work placements, workshops, interdisciplinary collaborations, and hands-on assignments will enhance students’ learning experiences. Additionally, students will have access to The Image Centre, Canada’s premier facility for photography research and exhibition, which houses the esteemed Black Star Collection.
Students will produce professional-level work with access to state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, including studios, cameras, lenses, lighting, printers, and dark rooms. With two gallery spaces on campus and TMU’s offsite Artscape Gallery at 401 Richmond, students will have plenty of opportunities to showcase their work. Students also get to participate in Maximum Exposure, an annual year-end showcase that celebrates the future of image-making as envisioned by the next generation of lens-based artists and creative professionals.
