Professional Hairstyling

Over twelve months, students in the Blanche MacDonald Centre Professional Hairstyling program will transform into an industry-ready hair professional. Under the mentorship of award-winning instructors students will gain a broad set of tools and techniques, learn the business inside out and develop the confidence and creativity to become a successful Hair professional.

This Pro Hair Program goes beyond cutting and colouring to immerse students in all aspects of the hair industry. This is a step-by-step journey of the hair world, through extensions, perming, fashion, editorial, runway, photo shoots, platform work and much more. Each level involves a curated mix of theory, workshops, practical work, and real-life experience. Students will take part in a series of professional photo shoots to capture their work, which they will use to build an industry-standard portfolio. Students will explore the fundamentals of the business, coaching in client relations, resumé building, networking and retail strategies.

The progressive curriculum allows students the flexibility and fluidity to move between salon, platform, competition, editorial, runway, television production studio and film set. These are transferable skills that can take their career to the local, national or international level.

The College has also created a customized module within the Pro Hair Full-time program, training students on how to treat and style natural, Afro-textured hair. There has been an educational gap when it comes to teaching students how to handle the unique needs of natural, textured hair. With this hands-on, specialized curriculum,  students will develop the skills and confidence to work with textured hair cutting, sculpting, styling, including dreadlocks, hot comb use, and wig fitting.
