The Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Computer Science at the University of British Columbia (UBC) offers students a robust foundation in software development, algorithms, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. The program is designed to equip students for careers in technology, research, and innovation within the industry. It offers flexibility, allowing students to tailor their academic journey by selecting from various majors, combined majors, honours, and minors, facilitating interdisciplinary studies.

The Computer Science B.Sc. Major program starts with the general first-year science curriculum, followed by in-depth courses in mathematics and a comprehensive grounding in computer software design. Students are also given the freedom to explore electives from a wide range of departments, including but not limited to Psychology, Music, Economics, Visual Arts, Biology, and Philosophy.

The UBC Computer Science program emphasizes several key learning outcomes. These include the ability to break down real-world problems into manageable sub-problems, develop software systems to address these problems, and design solutions that adhere to specific requirements while considering trade-offs in attributes like time, space, and security. Students also learn to construct formal arguments, prove the correctness and complexity of their approaches, and independently acquire knowledge of new technologies and frameworks. Furthermore, they develop skills in modern team-based development practices and gain an understanding of the layers of abstraction in a system, particularly how data and execution are represented and interact within those layers.
