Hairstylist Apprentice

Participants in the Vancouver Community College (VCC) Apprenticeship program will receive the technical training that is needed to complete their Hairstylist apprenticeship. Level 1: 10 weeks, Level 2: 5 weeks, total: 15 weeks. The apprenticeship generally takes two years to complete, alongside 3150 hours of work-based training. There is no maximum time to completion.

Hairstylist Level 1 Apprenticeship

This course is intended for apprentices seeking to enter the hair industry and provides students with a thorough up-to-date hairstylist training experience with both fundamental theory and practical techniques. It includes customized cutting and shaving, style up-dos and additions, chemical straightening and colour correction. It also incorporates business practices. Students train in classrooms and a state of the art salon at VCC’s Downtown campus, with ample opportunity to practice their skills and to demonstrate their knowledge.

Hairstylist Level 2 Apprenticeship

This course is intended for apprentices currently working in the hair industry who have completed the Hairstylist Foundation program, Hairstylist Level 1 Apprenticeship or wishes to challenge the Hairstylist Red Seal examination. This course provides students with a thorough up-to-date training experience in advanced techniques and services including; customized cutting and shaving, style up-dos and additions, chemical straightening, colour correction, wigs and extensions with incorporation of advanced business practices.

• How to analyze a client’s hair and scalp and recommend treatments and care.
