Edison College Canada’s Therapeutic Recreation Activity Assistant Associate Certificate prepares students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to plan, implement, and evaluate therapeutic recreation and social activities. The program focuses on developing engaging, individualized activities that support the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social well-being of clients, including older adults with physical or cognitive impairments.
The program combines 20 weeks of theoretical instruction (372 hours) with a three-week supervised practicum (90 hours), giving students opportunities to apply their skills in practical care settings. Reviewed and approved by the Private Training Institutions Regulatory Unit (PTIRU), the program prepares graduates for roles in hospitals, group homes, assisted living facilities, and other care environments where recreational activities help enhance clients’ quality of life.
