Behavioural Insights (BI) uses principles from the Behavioural and Decision Sciences (including Psychology and Economics) to encourage decisions that promote health, wellness, and happiness. By accounting for the ways that people make decisions and behave in the real world, BI improves programs, policies, and products in ways that encourage positive changes in consumers, citizens, and employees. BI knowledge and skills are increasingly in demand in both the public and private sectors.

The Advanced Professional Certificate in Behavioural Insights is a rigorous nine-month program that gives students the knowledge and skills to design and evaluate BI solutions in the workplace.

Learn how Behavioural Insights creates positive behavioural change. The Fundamentals of Behavioural Insights is a 3-week introductory course that provides the knowledge to add a BI lens to how to approach problems. The course can be taken as open enrolment or as a required prerequisite for the certificate program.

What You’ll Learn

  • Gain a greater understanding of the theory and practice of BI.
  • Design and conduct exploratory research.
  • Design BI solutions that shift behaviour to create positive change.
  • Design and conduct a randomized controlled trial (RCT).
  • Analyze and interpret data to evaluate the impact of BI solutions.
  • Use ethical frameworks to evaluate BI projects.
  • Apply project management, strategic thinking, and creative problem-solving skills to a real BI project.

My first year at UBC Sauder was a unique and eye-opening experience. The school attracts highly driven students who are ambitious and goal-oriented, which creates a fast-paced and focused academic environment. There’s a strong culture of professionalism—people often dress in business casual, which really sets the tone for preparing students for the corporate world. What stood out most to me were the professors. Sauder has some truly outstanding first-year faculty who are passionate about teaching and committed to creating a more inclusive and thoughtful learning environment. I especially appreciated how classes focused not just on content, but on teaching us how to think differently and spot opportunities in the business world.

Choosing UBC Sauder was one of the best decisions I’ve made. The program combines academic excellence with real-world experience through consulting projects and case studies. I appreciated learning from professors with actual industry backgrounds—they made the material engaging and practical. The collaborative, diverse environment helped me grow both personally and professionally, and the career support was incredibly helpful, especially as I looked to work in Canada. Sauder’s focus on responsible leadership and global perspective really aligned with my values.
