University of the Fraser Valley’s Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program prepares students to work collaboratively with individuals, families, groups, and communities across diverse cultural and social environments. Grounded in principles of social justice and community engagement, the program equips learners with the knowledge, values, and professional skills needed to address complex social issues and support meaningful change. Students develop a strong understanding of social work practice while exploring the impact of social systems, equity, and advocacy within community settings.
Students enter the BSW program after completing 60 university-level credits and participate in two practicum placements with community partner organizations. These hands-on experiences provide valuable industry exposure, professional networking opportunities, and practical application of classroom learning. Accredited by the Canadian Association for Social Work Education, the program prepares graduates for professional practice and eligibility to apply for registration with the British Columbia College of Social Workers, while also providing a pathway toward advanced studies such as a Master of Social Work degree.
