The UFred Associate Degree in Occupational Health and Safety program provides students with the knowledge required to develop, implement and evaluate occupational health and safety programs and systems in the workplace. The courses offered in this program are based on independent learning – learners decide when to study during the week, and there are no classes to attend. However, they will be required to meet assignment deadlines and finish their courses on time.

In the AOHS program, students will take courses that cover the best practices identified by OHS professionals from a wide range of jurisdictions and legislative backgrounds.

The AOHS is made up of twenty-one courses which can be completed in as little as twenty-four months full time or up to forty-two months in part time studies.

Students have the option to pay upfront or one course at a time for flexibility.

What You’ll Learn

  • List tools and methods that can be used to identify hazards, assess risks, and implement controls.
  • Apply the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) model at a higher level when designing, implementing, monitoring, or continuously improving the OHSMS.
  • Establish the risk environment by determining acceptable risk and risk appetite of the organization based on stakeholder engagement, hazards present, external environment standards, and organizational goals and objectives.
  • Develop a risk management strategy/procedure document.
  • Outline and modify various change management systems and problem-solving approaches to ensure continuous improvement of an OHSMS.
  • Interpret phenomena and data using basic statistical methods.
  • Interpret and compare data against recognized standards.
  • Develop the ability to function on teams.
  • Understand professional and ethical responsibility.
  • Understand how to communicate effectively.
