Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biomedical Science

A growing awareness of how the different levels of life interact has brought together the disciplines of biology and medicine and added to the understanding of how these interactions affect health and disease. Students who complete the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biomedical Science will appreciate that the many levels and approaches to health and medicine are complementary and will be able to apply these principles to assess and solve problems as they relate to real-world health issues. Community Placements will provide students with opportunities for practical experience in a medical or health-care related setting, preparing graduates for successful careers in biomedical or applied health research, teaching, degree programs in medicine, or in the allied health profession.

In this first-of-its-kind degree program in Ontario, students will explore a range of topics in the classroom and lab, including cell biology, anatomy, biochemistry, and biomedical ethics, and put course learning into practice with an emphasis on experiential learning in professional health environments.

Students will also learn from leading practitioners through one of two capstone fourth year courses of the program, which could have students experiencing medicine in action while shadowing doctors, dentists, veterinarians, physiotherapists, pharmacists, or other health practitioners – a rare experience at the undergraduate level.
