St. George’s University (SGU) School of Medicine, a Caribbean medical school, offers a 4-Year MD Program (MD4) designed for students who have completed a bachelor’s degree in the required sciences. The program equips students with both practical and critical thinking skills necessary for success as practicing physicians. The 157-week curriculum is typically completed within four calendar years, with all instruction delivered in English. The program’s comprehensive curriculum provides students with the foundational knowledge needed to succeed as physicians and prepares them to develop thriving careers in medicine.

The MD program is divided into two phases: Basic Sciences and Clinical Training.

In Years 1 and 2 (Basic Sciences), students complete their courses on SGU’s campus in Grenada. The curriculum includes traditional lectures and laboratory sessions, complemented by small group sessions and case-based learning exercises. Grenada, with its modern facilities and various amenities, provides an ideal environment for medical students from around the world to live, learn, and build diverse networks.

I had an amazing experience at SGU, met my wife, and matched into an excellent residency program in NYC. I was surrounded by bright motivated students from top undergraduate programs in the US and Canada, and excellent dedicated professors from all over the world. It is hard work, no doubt, but if you ultimately want to practice medicine, and you put the work in, you will be happy and grateful for SGU, as my wife and I are.
