Concordia University’s AutoCAD 1 course offers a comprehensive introduction to one of the world’s leading computer-aided design tools, equipping learners with the foundational skills needed to succeed in drafting and design. The program covers essential aspects of AutoCAD, including 2D drawing commands, object snap functions, drawing tools, and an introduction to 3D concepts. Students gain hands-on experience navigating the software’s menus, icons, and command-line interface, while learning professional techniques for producing and presenting accurate 2D drawings. As the first course in a two-level series, it provides a strong foundation for building more advanced CAD skills.
The course is ideal for beginners seeking to understand the fundamentals of AutoCAD, as well as students and professionals aiming to enter fields such as engineering, architecture, manufacturing, drafting, and design. It also benefits engineering undergraduates and graduates, CEGEP students preparing for further study, and technical staff or engineers looking to enhance their design skills. By the end of the course, participants are prepared to apply CAD principles effectively, opening doors to careers in modeling, 3D printing, machining, woodworking, and other dynamic industries that rely on precision design tools.
What You’ll Learn
- The basic terminology of Computer Aided Design.
- The principles and operation of AutoCAD.
- The drop-down menu, icons and command-line structure.

I am currently in Concordia University’s Civil Engineering program. My experience has been solid so far. The courses are challenging but well-structured, and the professors are approachable. I’ve enjoyed the hands-on labs and group projects, which help connect theory to real-world engineering problems.
Some workload can be intense, especially during midterms and finals, but overall the program is preparing me well for a future in engineering. It’s demanding, but worth it if you’re passionate about civil infrastructure and design.
Curriculum was immersive
